Once again, it is necessary to make visible the urgency of continuing to work for equality between women and men. Once again it becomes necessary a March 8th.
In the face of certain voices that try to pervert the meaning of the feminist struggle, it is urgent to remember that feminism is a social and political movement with more than three hundred years of history that, always with peaceful means, seeks to make women, who are half of humanity, can enjoy the same rights as the other half of the world’s population. That it demands respect and tolerance among people, that it fights so that no one can be discriminated against either on the basis of gender, or skin color, or origin, or beliefs.
Feminism, therefore, is an unequivocal defense of human rights. Universities, as centers for the creation and transmission of knowledge, must be at the forefront of defending democratic and egalitarian values. Intelligence, abilities and talent do not have sex, and they are all necessary for building a fairer but also more sustainable world.
From the IRIE we support the commemoration of this significant date and maintain the commitment to co-education, as a basic tool for coexistence, and as a prevention of intolerance and violence.
Feminism is justice, equality, sorority and the defense of rights that make us full citizens in all parts of the planet.
