Sandra Sedano Colom, on behalf of Calvià City Council, and Lluís Ballester Brage, collaborator of the Educational and Social Research and Training Group (GIFES) of the IRIE, are responsible for this study, which also completes a team consisting of Albert Cabellos, Gracia M. Fornieles, Mònica Gelabert and Noemí Gelabert.

The edition is an initiative of the city of Calvià, in Mallorca, and offers a diagnosis based on a detailed view of the knowledge of young schoolchildren in the municipality. 220 valid surveys and direct interviews were conducted with students in the last stage of primary school (10-12 years); ESO, Baccalaureate and training cycles students (between 12 and 18 years old); parents and professionals in the education system.

The ultimate goal is to expand work on egalitarian values and affective-sexual education at all levels of education, in order to prevent and eradicate gender-based violence.

Puberty and adolescence are a major challenge for young people, who experience a series of important changes in their physique and also in their emotions and relationships, which often cause them conflict and make them rethink issues that until then they thought were unquestionable.

The Subcommission for the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence of the town council detected the urgency of drawing up an emotional and sexual co-education plan that would respond to what the students, teachers, families and citizens of Calvià in general were asking for.

The study focused on the following objectives:

  • Have a diagnosis of the needs of the whole municipality of Calvià and all its population centers
  • Identify difficulties, threats, strengths and opportunities in the field of affective and sexual education
  • Propose strategic lines and guidelines for developing a short-term action plan for the next three or four years, which includes actions to improve existing programs and new initiatives, based on the conclusions of the diagnosis.
