Irie Research Seminar
On January 8, at 1:30 pm in the IRIE meeting room, Guillem Cifrede Colonya Building Bloc C-210, a new research seminar in the IRIE will be held, both in person and online mode by Angélica Mateus Moreno, speech therapist at the National University of Colombia, a specialist in Neuropsychopedagogy and Master in Neurocences. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Education at the UIB with a scholarship from the Ministry of Science and Innovation. His research focuses on language and learning difficulties, emotional regulation and bullying, and is part of the and+Delab , where he studies the relationship between language, cognition and emotional regulation in children and adolescents.
Seminar summary:
The implicit learning of regularities is known as Statistical Learning (AE). In recent research, it has been observed that children with reading difficulties, such as dyslexia, have a lower performance in these types of tasks, especially in languages with deep spelling such as English. However, the relationship between the AE and dyslexia in more transparent spelling, such as Spanish, is still poorly explored. In these spelling, the correspondence between graphemes and phonemes are more consistent, which could require less strategies for reading.
This study examines the AE in 50 children, between 9 and 12 years old, with and without dyslexia. To do this, four tasks were built in two modalities (auditory and visual) and with two types of stimuli (verbal and non -verbal), analyzing both the accuracy and the response time of the participants.
The presentation will discuss the main results of the AE research and implications as a key mechanism for understanding processes linked to reading reading in children with dyslexia.

About the speaker:
The Angélica Dr. Mateus Moreno is speech therapist from the National University of Colombia, a specialist in neuropsychopedagogy from the University of Manizales and a master's degree in neuroscience from the National University of Colombia. He is currently doing his PhD in Education at the UIB with a scholarship granted by the Ministry of Science and Innovation for the training of researchers with a pre -doctoral contract in the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Education Psychology.
His interests researchers include language and learning difficulties, cognitive processes linked to learning, emotional regulation and bullying. He is a member of the R&D Research Group, where he investigates the relationship between language, cognition and emotional regulation processes in children and adolescents with language difficulties.
